Firefighters successfully rescued a small kitten from a sewer system in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, last week, demonstrating quick thinking and teamwork in an unusual emergency call.

The Rocky Hill Fire Department responded to the area near Garden Street at 5:19 p.m. on May 28 after receiving reports of an animal trapped underground.

Crews entered the sewer system at three separate access points to locate the kitten, which was found about 50 feet from the street in a sewer pipe. Firefighters at the farthest point worked to encourage the little guy to move toward the other two teams positioned closer to street level.

Once the kitten reached a position between the access points on Main Street, crews were able to safely extract the animal from the underground system.

The Rocky Hill Police Department took custody of the kitten, which has since been transferred to an animal rescue organization for veterinary care. In a social media update this weekend, the Rocky Hill Fire Department reported that there have been many inquiries from members of the public hoping to adopt it, so it appears that the tiny feline will soon have some very loving and caring new owners.
