Somewhere on the outskirts of Madrid, a dog was having a perfectly good nap when two first responders showed up and ruined it.

That's more or less how the Guardia Civil officers told it themselves, posting video of the rescue with a caption that's hard not to smile at: "Another furry friend who wasn't too thrilled about us interrupting his summer siesta."

The footage shows the pair wrapping the dog in a blue blanket and carrying him out of his home in Pelayos de la Presa, a small town about 40 miles from the capital, as wildfires raged around them. They loaded him into the back of a police car, made sure he was safe and ran back toward the flames.

The dog, for his part, just froze. Confused, a little put out, but otherwise fine.

"They look so helpless when we evacuate them," the officers wrote. "They just freeze in place. But they are part of the family — and even more so in these circumstances."
