A foam koozie's main job isn't shielding your can from hot air, it's actually stopping condensation. When humid summer air condenses on a cold can, it dumps latent heat directly into the drink, warming it more than twice as much as dry heat alone. Two University of Washington atmospheric scientists measured the effect and found in maximum humid conditions, a can went from freezing to 48 degrees in just five minutes.
