Helicopters airlifted more than 60 hikers from the Grand Canyon after flash flooding tore through Phantom Ranch and the North Kaibab Trail. As much as an inch of rain fell in about 20 minutes Saturday, wiping out footbridges at Bright Angel Campground and killing a 46-year-old man whose body was recovered along the Colorado River. The flooding also knocked out the park's only water pipeline, forcing the National Park Service to close South Rim hotels to overnight guests.
