A slow-moving nor'easter is bearing down on the Northeast for the final weekend of the regular season, and it's already rewriting the MLB schedule.

The National Weather Service has a high wind warning up for the entire Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastline from Friday morning through Saturday night, with gusts up to 50 mph. A coastal flood watch covers Boston, Cape Cod and the islands into Sunday night, with up to a foot of water possible in low-lying spots near the shore. That's the alert package MLB is scheduling around, not just a rainy forecast.

Red Sox vs. Cubs, Fenway Park

This is the series getting the most attention, and for good reason: the Cubs are clinging to the top National League Wild Card seed over the Padres and Phillies. Boston has already clinched its playoff spot.

To beat the storm, the teams moved Sunday's game up to Friday, splitting a doubleheader that starts at 1:05 p.m. and finishes around 6:05 p.m. Cubs manager Craig Counsell pushed back on the plan, arguing a doubleheader squeezed into a tight playoff race isn't fair to either roster.

If Tony Kornheiser were doing PTI on this, he'd already be three minutes into a rant about how Boston sports can't just have a normal ending to a season, there's always a gust of wind or a ball off the Pesky Pole to make it interesting. MLB and both clubs have discussed a neutral-site game as a backup if the storm tracks worse than expected.

Yankees vs. Orioles, Yankee Stadium

New York's series with Baltimore sits in the same wind and rain window. Neither team, however, is fighting for playoff position the way Boston and Chicago are. They have canceled Saturday's game and will play a doubleheader Friday. The first game will begin at 4:05 p.m. and a single ticket gets you into both games. Sunday's game remains up in the air.

Rays vs. Phillies, Citizens Bank Park

Philadelphia's weekend games are expected to see rain, but current guidance keeps the worst wind and flood risk north of the city. Like in Baltimore, Philly looks better on Friday than on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Rays are pushing for 100 wins on the season, and the best record in the American League.

The Mets and Nationals, both already eliminated, have nothing on the line either way.
