It’s firmly mid-October today. And while most of the United States is stocking up on candy for trick-or-treaters and preparing for a Scream movie marathon over the next two weeks, snowboarders are waxing their boards and buying new outerwear.

Our first winter storm of the season has swept through the west. Some ski areas have already gotten a solid amount of coverage (Utah, here’s looking at you). For others, it’s just nice to see that the thermometers are creeping down toward snowmaking temperatures, especially after last year’s lackluster winter in the west.

When it snows in the west, the industry is healthy. As much as I hate to admit that, that is the pyschlogy among riders and skiers in the United States. So while I enjoyed the banner 2025-2026 we had on the east coast, I am willing to sacrifice that for some deep bases and deeper snowstorms throughout the left coast this winter.

These snow totals are courtesy of a combination of Snow Alert, On The Snow, and resort websites and marketing teams. This is not an exhaustive list, and we’ll update it as more information is made available.
