It’s starting to look more like ski season in Lake Tahoe and the Eastern Sierra.

Ullr paid a visit to several California ski areas last night, and while snow totals weren’t too significant, it’s a sure sign that winter is on its way.

Mammoth Mountain picked up the most snow, with 2″ falling over the last 24 hours. Heavenly also got an inch, and Kirkwood and Mt. Rose got a nice coating as well, although not quite enough to tally. Palisades Tahoe also got a light dusting overnight, which they shared a clip of on their social media.

Super El Niño predictions for the upcoming winter season favor Mammoth Mountain to have a pretty darn good year. Mammoth is currently scheduled to open on November 13, earlier than most other resorts in the state.

The next five days don’t have much more precipitation in the forecast for the Eastern Sierra, but things are looking more active two weeks out, with up to 10″ falling by November 5.

Forecasts for the Tahoe area also get a little less exciting over the next week or so, but some resorts could pick up a couple more inches of precipitation. Heavenly has another 3″ in the forecast for the next two days, as does Kirkwood and Mt. Rose.

Rose has not yet announced an opening day just yet, but the mountain usually aims for early-to-mid November. You can find a full list of California ski areas’ projected opening dates here.
