Heat waves, humidity and sweat have you feeling frazzled in these 100 degree days? You’re not alone - with punishing heat targeting the South, you’re going to want to hunker down and stay indoors while you can.

But if your home isn’t an oasis from the heat, it could be that your indoor humidity is to blame. Air conditioners may be struggling to dehumidify your home, and a little extra support can go a long way to keeping your temperature (both home and body) regulated.

Dehumidifiers are designed to remove excess moisture from the air, reducing the relative humidity by cooling the air and decreasing its ability to hold moisture. The most ideal times to use dehumidifiers are spring and summer, but depending on where you live, using it in your basement or crawl spaces year round could help keep mold in check.

You shouldn’t have to spend a whole paycheck to get a dehumidifier. Amazon and Walmart are offering some deals during this summer heatwave that could help dehumidify your small spaces, bedrooms and basements this season.

Dehumidifier Refresher: What Type Of Dehumidifier Is Best For Your Home

Before you splurge on a must-have home essential (especially for those in the South), you’ll want to decide the best type of dehumidifier based on the room size.

A refrigerant dehumidifier, also known as a condensing dehumidifier, is the most popular option for larger rooms. A condensing dehumidifier will work even in lower relative humidity, creating cold surfaces where moisture in the air will condense, and then the air is returned to the room. This type of dehumidifier is best for attics and basements, and will usually have a larger pint size reservoir or offer continuous draining when paired with a hose.

A desiccant dehumidifier offers lower capacity ratings and needs slightly higher relative humidity to properly pull the water from the air. This is an ideal type of dehumidifier for small spaces like closets and bathrooms.

While the company page claims up to 1,000 square feet of coverage, based on the size and comparative options from other companies, we would suggest a much smaller space for its best performance.

Another said, “You can put it anywhere and it takes little space. I bought [it] to use in my two car garage and it works great! I noticed a difference in the garage shortly after turning it on.
