Before you splurge on a must-have home essential (especially for those in the South), you’ll want to decide the best type of dehumidifier based on the room size.

A refrigerant dehumidifier, also known as a condensing dehumidifier, is the most popular option for larger rooms. A condensing dehumidifier will work even in lower relative humidity, creating cold surfaces where moisture in the air will condense, and then the air is returned to the room. This type of dehumidifier is best for attics and basements, and will usually have a larger pint size reservoir or offer continuous draining when paired with a hose.

A desiccant dehumidifier offers lower capacity ratings and needs slightly higher relative humidity to properly pull the water from the air. This is an ideal type of dehumidifier for small spaces like closets and bathrooms.

One reviewer summed up this Breezome Dehumidifier as a “little unit, big job”, saying, “It’s a great little thing to have if you live in high humidity states. While the company page claims up to 1,000 square feet of coverage, based on the size and comparative options from other companies, we would suggest a much smaller space for its best performance.

“A solid choice for small spaces,” says one happy reviewer, noting the touch controls are easy to use, and the water level window is perfect for alerting users when it’s ready to be emptied. Another said, “You can put it anywhere and it takes little space. I bought [it] to use in my two car garage and it works great! I noticed a difference in the garage shortly after turning it on. It was smelling a little moldy and this took care of it and the garage smells way better and feels way better!”

As for complaints, it’s a common theme – some felt it did not work efficiently to the way described, it was louder than expected and the longevity is in question.

Many reviewers said it was very effective at removing moisture from small rooms, with satisfied customers mentioning it keeps clothing dry and mold-free. Customers have found it fairly powerful, offers quiet operation and has easy-to-use controls, but the size has surprised reviewers noting it seems smaller than it should for such a large capacity. We might suggest the 7,000 square foot claim as being at peak operational performance.

One reviewer that has used it in their home says, “I don’t usually leave reviews, but I just have to say — I love this Waykar dehumidifier. It has made such a difference in our basement and even upstairs when it gets muggy.” They went on to say they use both the water reservoir and the hose hookup for automatic draining. “This little machine is a lifesaver.”
