Wednesday (June 12)

  • Localised heavy to very heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely in Goa, coastal and northeastern Karnataka, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, adjoining Assam and Meghalaya.
  • Widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Northeast India. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over southwestern parts of the Southern Peninsula, Maharashtra, southern Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
  • Isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Maximum temperatures are likely to be above 45°C widely across Punjab and Haryana, in some pockets of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Thursday (June 13)

  • Localised heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining Assam.
  • Widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Northeast India. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over southwestern parts of the Southern Peninsula and Maharashtra.
  • Some heavy spells are expected along the Konkan coast.
  • Isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Isolated to scattered rain/snow and thunderstorms are likely over Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
  • Maximum temperatures are likely to be above 45°C in some pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

The northern limit of the southwest monsoon has advanced into southern tip of Gujarat on Tuesday. Conditions are favourable for further advance into Eastern India such as Chhattisgarh for the next couple of days.

Widespread rains will continue over Northeast India due to cyclonic circulations. Some spells are likely to be heavy in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, western Assam and Meghalaya.

Monsoonal rain over Southern Peninsular India will be heavy, especially along the Konkan coast and northeastern Karnataka until Wednesday and decrease somewhat thereafter.

Scorching heat with temperatures exceeding 40°C is expected to persist along northern plains through this week with some pockets witnessing over 45°C.
