Weekend Weather (September 7-8): Heavy Rains to Batter Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha

Here’s the weather forecast for the next two days:

S​aturday (September 7)

  • Scattered thunderstorms are possible over the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains.
  • Heavy rain is expected in northeastern Andhra Pradesh after the evening.
  • In the morning, fog is partially possible in Trans Himalayas.

Sunday (September 8)

  • Scattered thunderstorms are possible over the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains.
  • Heavy rain is expected in inland Odisha, the southeast end of Chhattisgarh, and the northeast end of Andhra Pradesh.

The western end of the monsoon trough is near its normal position, while the eastern end is south of its normal position at mean sea level. This pattern is likely to persist for the next 2-3 days.

A low-pressure area continues to prevail over the central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal as of 0530 hrs IST today. It is expected to move slowly northwards and intensify into a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal, affecting adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, and Bangladesh coasts around September 9. Thereafter, it is likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, Jharkhand, and north Chhattisgarh over the next three days.

Meanwhile, a western disturbance is positioned as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu and Kashmir in the middle tropospheric levels, while another cyclonic circulation extends up to the middle tropospheric levels over northeast Rajasthan.

In West and Central India, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over West India, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall likely over Central India during the week.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected in Gujarat Region on September 7, the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan-Goa from September 7-9. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Chhattisgarh for the next seven days, Saurashtra-Kutch on September 7, over West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region on September 7-8.

East Madhya Pradesh may receive heavy rain on September 7-8 and between September 11-13, while Konkan-Goa, the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra are expected to see heavy rain from September 7-11, and Vidarbha from September 8-13.

In South Peninsular India, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala-Mahe, while scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Lakshadweep. Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Interior Karnataka may experience isolated to scattered rainfall during the week.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are expected to experience isolated very heavy rainfall on September 8-9, while Telangana is likely to see the same on September 9-10. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Coastal Karnataka from September 7-10, and in Telangana from September 8-10.

In East and Northeast India, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the next 7 days. Arunachal Pradesh will see scattered to fairly widespread rain throughout the week, while East India is likely to experience fairly widespread rainfall from September 7-9, followed by widespread rain from September 10-13.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from September 9-12, with Odisha receiving very heavy rainfall on September 8-9. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, and Jharkhand over the next seven days. Bihar is expected to receive heavy rainfall on September 7, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on September 9,10 and 13, and Gangetic West Bengal from September 9-13.

In Northwest India, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected on September 6-7, with isolated to scattered rainfall likely for the following five days. Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over East Rajasthan on September 7. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected over Uttarakhand, southwest Rajasthan on September 7, East Uttar Pradesh from September 9-13, West Uttar Pradesh on September 7 and 13, and East Rajasthan on September 7-8.
