T​hursday (September 26)

  • Widespread rain is likely across Northeastern and adjoining Eastern India, with heavy to extremely heavy spells and thunderstorms in Bihar and West Bengal.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected over Western India, particularly in southern Gujarat and coastal Maharashtra, where some spells may be heavy to extremely heavy.
  • Rain and thunderstorms are also likely across Central India and the Northern Plains.
  • Isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected elsewhere, except in western Rajasthan, where temperatures could reach 40°C.

F​riday (September 27)

  • Widespread rain is forecast for Central and adjoining Eastern India, with heavy to extremely heavy spells and thunderstorms in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected in Gujarat, particularly southern Gujarat, where heavy to extremely heavy spells are likely.
  • Rain and thunderstorms are also likely over Northeastern India and the Northern Plains.
  • Isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected elsewhere, except in western Rajasthan, where maximum temperatures could reach 40°C. Isolated snowfall is possible in western Ladakh.

The withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon is about a week delayed, beginning earlier this week in western Rajasthan and western Gujarat, gradually progressing eastward. Meanwhile, a Cyclonic Circulation over Central India is expected to bring heavy rain to areas from southern Gujarat to western Maharashtra, and around Bihar, through Saturday.

Looking ahead to next week, dry conditions are expected across much of Northern and Central India. Maximum temperatures will remain below normal across the Punjab Plains, the Ganga Plains, and Gujarat through the weekend, while western Rajasthan may see highs reaching 40°C.
