The Day The Temperature Rose 103 Degrees

A storm system is tracking eastward this weekend, spreading showers and thunderstorms into the South and East and snow across the interior Northeast.

Thunderstorms produced wind gusts as high as 70 mph in Middle Tennessee Saturday evening due to a possible downburst. Damage to homes and power poles was reported in Orlinda, Tennessee.

Early Saturday, dime-sized hail was reported near Tulsa, Oklahoma, and heavy rain was observed in parts of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri, including near Sandusky, Illinois, where more than 2 inches of rain had fallen.

A tornado was reported near Falcon, Colorado, on Friday, which would be only the sixth time on record that Colorado had experienced two tornadoes in March. Snow was reported in the area Friday night.

An estimated 18 inches of snow accumulated near Lander, Wyoming, through late Friday, and around 12 inches of snow was reported near Gordon, Nebraska.

Friday morning, heavy snow, rain and downed tree limbs slowed the commute in the Salt Lake City area.

Golf-ball-sized hail was reported early Friday in parts of Oklahoma, including the Arcadia area, and near Arkansas City, Kansas.

Heavy rain from this system triggered flash flooding late Wednesday just north of Redding, California, in the Bella Vista area. Parts of California's Sierra Nevada picked up more than a foot of snowfall.

Here's a look at what to expect through Sunday.

Rain will reach the East Coast as we close out the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms will also continue along the Gulf Coast.

Meanwhile, parts of upstate New York, northern New England and the central and southern Appalachians may see snow or a rain-and-snow mix.

Most areas will be dry by Sunday night, with the exceptions of upstate New York and northern New England, which may see snow showers linger. Showers may also persist in parts of northern Florida.

How Much Snow and Rain?

Snow accumulations in the Great Lakes and interior Northeast are forecast to be light. Most areas will see a dusting to perhaps a couple of inches.

Additional rainfall will be rather light along the immediate East Coast and in the upper Ohio Valley.
