Holiday Travel Forecast Across US

The Labor Day forecast will have a familiar theme across the nation, with areas of searing heat, cooler temperatures and stubborn areas of thunderstorms with drenching rain.

Unfortunately, it appears Dorian will be a dangerous hurricane threat for parts of the Southeast. Click here for our latest forecast on the U.S. threat from Dorian.

The jet stream's configuration will keep temperatures hotter than average in the West and cooler than average in portions of the central U.S., while a threat of thunderstorms and heavy rain will be in play in the Southeast.

The overall weather pattern over the U.S. for Labor Day weekend.

Monday (Labor Day)

-Southeast: Hurricane Dorian will likely be impacting portions of the region (details) with at least some outer rainbands and wind. Otherwise, scattered thunderstorms are possible from the Carolinas to the Texas Gulf Coast.

-Northeast: Showers and thunderstorms are likely over much of the region, including the Interstate 95 corridor. Temperatures will remain near average, with highs generally in the 70s and 80s.

-Midwest: Thunderstorms may erupt in the northern Plains and then spread toward the upper Midwest in the evening. Those storms could be severe with damaging winds and large hail.

-West: Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the Desert Southwest, possibly extending into the Great Basin. Otherwise, the heat will stay in place from the northern and central Rockies into the Great Basin.
