Got Spring Fever? Check Out The March Outlook

March's forecast has trended warmer in the Midwest as the South remains the spot that could sport t-shirts most often in the new month, according to an updated outlook released Friday by The Weather Company and Atmospheric G2. Meanwhile, two of the nation's corners might have to contend with winter's leftover chill.

Here's what to expect for temperatures and precipitation in March.

Temperature Forecast

  • Spring Fever: Much of the South northward into the Central Plains is expected to have temperatures the most above March's typical average. At least somewhat warmer-than-average temperatures are possible as far north as the upper Midwest, where the forecast has trended milder than one released earlier in the month of February.
  • Leftover Chill: The Northwest and Northeast are most favored for temperatures that are slightly cooler than average, so jackets might need to be kept handy more often than not in those regions.
  • Northeast Wildcard Forecast Factor: While the Northeast forecast leans near or slightly colder than average, there is a chance the overall flavor of the month turns out milder. That's based on some forecast model guidance showing "considerably warmer" outcomes for that region, AG2 said.

Precipitation Forecast

  • Soggy Spring Start In North: The Great Lakes are most favored to see above average rain and snow. Conditions could be at least somewhat wetter than typical in the Northeast, Ohio Valley, upper and mid-Mississippi Valley and the Northwest.
  • Dry South Favored: Locations from the Southern Plains to the Gulf Coast and Florida are the most likely areas to see below-average rainfall. So those itching for outdoor activities might be in luck given the forecast also calls for warmer-than-average conditions in those regions.
