A pattern change brought the heaviest snow of the season, so far, to California's Sierra, and will continue to blanket the Rockies and Cascades with more snow into early week.

The jet stream dipped southward into the West Coast, sending a number of disturbances each wringing out rain and mountain snow the next several days.

Snow fell for several days in the northern Rockies and continues to fall in parts of the Intermountain West and Pacific Northwest.

Over 10 inches of snow fell in far northeast Washington's Ferry County. The combination of heavy, wet snow and strong winds knocked out power in parts of Pend Oreille County early Friday, according to the NWS office in Spokane. Up to 16 inches of snow was measured in Park County, Montana.

On Friday, snow was even observed in the Seattle area, with a trace of snow reported at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and up to 17 inches of snow has fallen near Mount Baker.

As of late Saturday, 13 inches was reported near Soda Springs, California and through early Sunday morning, 16.8 inches accumulated near Elk Mountain, Wyoming.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport picked up 0.4 inches of snowfall Sunday, setting a daily record for Nov. 5.



Incidentally, California's wet season usually kicks into gear in November. Los Angeles typically picks up 91 percent of its average annual rain from November through April.
