An estimated 350,000 fans will pack the Indy 500 this Sunday, and while weather conditions look ideal right now, we are still monitoring a central U.S. storm system to ensure its rain stays south and west of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Sunday

Increasing cloud cover is likely from a storm system bringing rain to the central and southern U.S. as temperatures rise toward the mid to upper 60s in the early afternoon.

Right now, most computer model forecast guidance shows high pressure keeping most rain chances to the south and west of Indianapolis from the start of the race at 12:45 p.m. EDT through the afternoon.

But there is still a small chance that a storm system to the west could sprawl its moisture far enough eastward into Indianapolis to generate at least a little light rainfall.

We'll be monitoring that possible forecast wrinkle closely, so check back to weather.com and The Weather Channel app for updates.
