Cold Front To Make Super Bowl Soggy?

As the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks gear up for today's big game, let’s hope the game, halftime show and commercials are more interesting than the weather. However, Mother Nature is always capable of throwing a surprise blitz.

The Super Bowl is typically played in cities where there’s a safer-than-average bet the weather will cooperate, but as history shows, the forecast doesn’t always stick to the playbook.

This year’s Super Bowl is being played in Santa Clara, California, in the home stadium of one of the Seahawks’ biggest rivals, the San Francisco 49ers.

What Are The Chances Of A Winning Forecast?

The Bay Area is known for dense fog, cooler temperatures and the occasional atmospheric river in winter, but today, the forecast looks ready for kickoff and mostly cooperative.

Warmer-than-average weather has been dominating much of California recently.

This weekend, a weak Pacific cold front will push into the Pacific Northwest. Today, some showers should move into Northern California. For now, most of the rain looks to stay north of the Bay Area, keeping game day conditions largely out of the red zone.

While we can’t completely rule out a stray shower during the big game, the forecast isn’t throwing any major flags. All signs point to weather that won’t steal the spotlight from the action on the field.

For the after parties and celebrations following the big game? Rain chances begin to climb after the sun goes down.

For those traveling home after the game, some airport delays are possible across the Pacific Northwest. Elsewhere across the country, weather conditions look fairly quiet, a calm finish to Super Bowl Sunday.
