Snow is piling up in parts of the northern Rockies again this week following on the heels of the first snowfall of the season late last week in much of the same region.

At the base of Great Divide Ski Area near Marysville, Montana, 24 inches of snow were reported last week. Frohner Meadow, Montana, part of the SNOTEL network, measured 11 inches of snow. Up to 8 inches were reported near Clancy, Montana, where numerous tree limbs came down.

Heavy, wet snow also led to tree damage and power outages near Newcomb, Montana. In addition, heavy snow resulted in the closing of Beartooth Pass at Vista Point in Montana on Route 212.

In the West, the same weather pattern as last week remains in place with a southward dip in the jet stream over the region, allowing colder conditions to infiltrate farther south. Conversely, the jet stream is being pushed northward over the East with warm temperatures streaming northward into the Midwest and Northeast.

Snow returned to the mountains of Idaho, western Montana, western Wyoming and northeast Utah on Tuesday behind a potent area of low pressure sweeping through the northern Rockies.

Tioga Pass Road and Glacier Point Road in Yosemite National Park were closed Thursday morning due to snow. Snow was also accumulating in the Tahoe, California area on Thursday.

Up to 23 inches of snow were reported near Moran Junction, in western Wyoming, through early Friday and up to 16 inches of snow fell near Cooke City, Montana through Friday morning.
