In a groundbreaking study, researchers looked at carotid plaque from hundreds of patients undergoing surgery. What they found is that patients with microplastic or nanoplastics present in the plaque were at a higher risk for heart attack, stroke and death from any cause. Though the results are convincing, more research is needed to fully confirm the link.
