Keep Your Home in Shape This Fall

Beautiful leaves in the fall come with responsibility. Do you know how to clean your gutters or the best way to gather leaves for front lawn care? Follow these tips to prep your home and yard for safety during the cooler months.

Clear Your Gutters

While your first instinct may be to start by raking up the leaves in your yard, you should actually start by clearing out your home's gutters. During the colder months, blocked gutters can allow water to back up under the shingles and can create leakes in the soffit or inside the home. Standing water in the gutter can also freeze in the winter and create an ice dam on the roof.

To safely clear your gutters, make sure you're wearing gloves to protect yourself from any sharp edges.  First use your hands to remove large debris, then use an extension wand on your pressure washer to rinse out gutters from the ground once larger clogs are removed. Once you've cleaned your gutters, you're ready to get to work on your lawn.

Rake Your Yard

Now that your gutters are clean of leaves and other debris, you can get to work raking the leaves on your lawn. Use a rake to gather and bag the leaves. To pick up the pace or to tackle a larger yard, you may want to consider a leaf blower. A cordless blower will help give you mobility as you work throughout your yard.

Protect Your Plants

If you've spent the last six months enjoying beautiful blooms, you don't want all of the hard work you put into your garden to go to wither and die in the winter months. Keep your garden beds fresh by replacing old mulch with new mulch to insulate the plants throughout the winter.
