Katharine Hepburn's family estate nestled along the Long Island Sound in Fenwick, Connecticut, is for sale.

Hepburn may have been one of Hollywood's iconic leading ladies of 20th century, but this estate in her home state of Connecticut was her lifelong escape from the bright lights of fame. Shorelinetimes.com says she called it "paradise," and always considered the area home.

I just never left home, so to speak. I’ve always come back," she said. "I would never buy a house in California. I would go out there, make a picture then come right back.”

The 8,300-square-foot home that's for sale, with a private beach and private dock, isn't the original house. The first was destroyed by a hurricane in 1938, according to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center. The 1938 storm killed 700 people, and was as strong as what the modern National Hurricane Center sale considers a Category 4 storm.

Hepburn rebuilt in a year, according the cultural arts center. The modern home, which was renovated again in 2005, has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and sits on 1.47 acres with 680 feet of waterfront, according to Zillow.

The current asking price is $14.8 million. Find out more listing details on Zillow.
