Pennsylvania Man Reunited with Class Ring Lost During Hurricane Agnes 43 Years Ago

Pennsylvania police gave 66-year-old Roger Stout a blast from the past Friday, and at first the Forty Fort resident was in disbelief.

Stout lost his Wilkes University class ring in 1972 when Hurricane Agnes caused severe flooding in Pennsylvania, the Associated Press reports.

When the Susquehanna River swelled and swept through Stout's hometown, it took his ring with it. Stout says his ring was resting on an open window before it was lost, and he never expected to see it again, according to WNEP.

Why did the police have it? Well, Stout's ring turned up at a crime scene.

“I lost it in the flood. How could they get it back? And found at a crime scene?” Stout said.

Russell Hann, a Hunlock Creek, Pennsylvania man, was arrested recently for allegedly stealing jewelry and selling it to a local pawn shop, according to the Scranton Times-Tribune. One of the items in Hann's haul was Stout's ring, four decades after it washed away.

When officers noticed "RS BS" inscribed on the ring, they contacted Wilkes University and worked their way back to Stout, who graduated a year before the historic flood.

“It’s something you’re proud of. I never thought I’d get it back,” Stout said. “I’m very happy it still fits.”
