Historic Rainfall, Flooding Hits the Southeast (PHOTOS)

Days of heavy rain led to catastrophic flooding that swamped virtually the entire state of South Carolina.

Some residents were trapped inside their homes as the floodwaters rose, which forced authorities to make hundreds of life-saving rescues. Others were trapped on roadways that were rapidly overtaken by raging rivers.

At least 19 people have been killed by the dangerous floods in North and South Carolina. Officials warn that even though the rain has stopped, river flooding is likely to continue for a few more days as billions of gallons of water meander downstream, toward the coast.
