Three goats and a dog walked into a fire station … it sounds like the beginning of a tall tale, but it happened last week in New Bedford, Massachusetts, when a veritable menagerie caught the attention of a crew of first responders.

The New Bedford Fire Department said that members of Engine 5 noticed a mother goat with two babies and a dog walking down the street without a human escort. Concerned about the animals’ safety, the firefighters herded them into their fire station until they could be returned to their home, which turned out to be just a short distance from the station.
