If you’ve spent much time with kittens, you know that they like exploring shoulders. When those are the shoulders of a human, that can be downright cute. However, when they are wandering loose on the shoulder of a dangerous freeway, things are a bit more serious.

In Tacoma, Washington, last week, Washington State Patrol troopers were called to assist a kitten that was seen strolling along the shoulder of Interstate 5, which is pretty much the last place a kitten should be in the entirety of the West Coast.

Body camera video released by the department on social media shows one of the troopers lying down on the ground to get to the kitten’s hiding spot under a concrete barrier.

After being examined by a veterinarian, the kitten was released back to the WSP in good health. According to the department, a trooper decided to adopt the kitten, so we’re wishing them both a great future with only human and feline shoulders in it.
