Dramatic Clifftop Rescue: Dog Saved After 40-Foot Fall At San Francisco's Fort Funston

A dog miraculously survived a 40-foot plunge from a San Francisco cliff Tuesday, landing on a rocky ledge at Fort Funston where it waited patiently for help to arrive.

At San Francisco's Fort Funston, firefighters were called up to execute a daring rescue operation last Tuesday afternoon after a dog accidentally plummeted 40 feet from a coastal cliff and became stranded on a rocky outcrop.

Fire department personnel deployed specialized rescue equipment and drone technology to coordinate the recovery mission. Video footage captured by the department's aerial drone showed a firefighter descending the steep cliff face using rappelling gear to reach the stranded animal.

The dog initially showed signs of nervousness as the rescuer approached, moving restlessly on the narrow ledge where it had landed. However, once the firefighter reached the animal, it cooperated with the rescue efforts and was secured with safety equipment for the careful ascent back to solid ground.

Upon reaching the cliff top, the dog appeared disoriented by the ordeal, but showed positive signs, including tail-wagging. The animal suffered no apparent injuries from its fall and was successfully reunited with its worried but thankful owner.

Before departing the scene, the dog reportedly showed appreciation to its rescuers in typical canine fashion, via licks.
