While Oklahoma is known for its unpredictable weather patterns, a loose kangaroo certainly wasn't on anyone's radar — until now.

Imagine this: You're driving down a quiet road in Oklahoma. You're probably aware of the possibility that you might need to break for a local animal like a deer or maybe even an armadillo, but the last thing on your mind is coming to a screeching halt due to a kangaroo hopping down the road. But that's what happened Monday in Tulsa County after a pet kangaroo named Martha escaped from her home.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the unusual call, according to a department social media post, explaining that Martha had made a break for freedom from a nearby property. Fortunately, her owner caught wind of the escape and rushed to the scene to help deputies corral the wayward marsupial.

"She escaped from a property not far from where she was captured," officials said. "She's now safe and is headed home with her owner."
