Highway Heroes Rescue Lost Husky In Colorado

Colorado Department of Transportation crew saves exhausted puppy wandering dangerous interstate after storm damage

A team of Colorado Department of Transportation workers are being praised as heroes after rescuing a young Husky puppy that escaped onto a busy Interstate after a storm damaged his family’s fence.

The heartwarming rescue unfolded on Interstate 70 near mile marker 241 in Idaho Springs after high winds damaged the wooden fence, allowing the Husky to wander free from his yard.

The CDOT crew was traveling westbound on I-70 when they spotted the lost dog and immediately took action, using their vehicles to temporarily halt traffic in the westbound lanes to ensure the animal's safety.

Idaho Springs Police Chief Nate Buseck arrived on scene simultaneously to assist with the rescue operation, which was captured on his patrol dash-cam.

"The dog was so exhausted by the time help arrived that he was basically just laying there when CDOT scooped him up, in all likelihood saving his life," Buseck told a local newspaper.

After the highway workers gently lifted the tired puppy into Buseck's patrol vehicle, I-70 was quickly reopened to traffic. Buseck then began driving through town to locate the dog's family.

The search didn't take long. The police chief soon encountered the puppy's worried owner, who was also driving through Idaho Springs searching for her missing pet.

"The owner was beyond grateful to have their furry friend back safe and sound. No injuries, just one very tired dog who flirted with danger and lived to tell the tail," Buseck said. (We see what he did there ...)
