Last year's Photographer of the Year winner for the Sony World Photography Awards, Frederik Buyckx, shared, "Being named Photographer of the Year has given me more exposure than I could have ever imagined. It has opened lots of new doors, but, just as importantly, the award has also encouraged me to keep on working on my personal projects."

The winners will be anounced this spring. Prizes include $25,000 to the Photographer of the Year and $5,000 for the overall Open Competition winner. Winners in each of the 21 categories will win the latest Sony Digital Imaging equipment. Professional catogry winners will be flown to London to attend the Sony World Photography Awards dinner on April 19, 2018.

Open categories include architecture, culture, motion, landscape and nature, portraiture, still life, street photography, travel and wildlife.
