Winter Storm Liam moved eastward Wednesday, bringing snow, sleet and freezing rain to parts of northern Maine, New England and New York state. The storm dumped a blanket of snow throughout a swath of the Plains, Midwest and South Tuesday, and then moved east toward the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.

Light snow and freezing rain fell in throughout the New York City Tri-state area Wednesday morning. Some areas of eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania saw an accumulation of 6 to 9 inches Wednesday. More than 25,000 homes and businesses were without power in Ohio during the morning hours due to icy trees and sagging power lines.

At Baltimore-Washington International Airport, a Southwest Airlines passenger jet skidded sideways along the taxiway, and although no injuries were reported, all passengers had to be bussed back to the terminal while officials investigated the incident.

Hundreds of flights were canceled throughout the Northeast, according to FlightAware.com, and New York City's Mario Cuomo Bridge was shut down due to icy conditions and multiple accidents, as reported by WABC-TV.

Most of the Midwest, from northern Illinois to Indiana and southern Michigan has received 1 to 4 inches of snowfall. By Wednesday afternoon, parts of central New York had received 2 to 4 inches, with 3 inches in Albany.

Icy conditions may have caused an airplane to slide off the runway at Baltimore-Washington International Airport in Linthicum, Maryland, Wednesday morning, CBS Baltimore reported. No injuries were reported.

Some school districts in the Washington D.C. area were closed due to icy conditions, and the federal government delayed opening.
