Severe Storms Turn Deadly in the South (PHOTOS)

Severe storms in the South left at least eight people dead, three in northwest Louisiana, three in Alabama, one in Texas and one in Oklahoma. Tornadoes were confirmed in Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina, Oklahoma and Missouri.

The governors of Mississippi and Arkansas both declared states of emergency. Wind gusts up to 60 mph knocked down trees and power lines, destroying homes and flipping tractor-trailers. In result, interstates were closed and over 300,000 customers were without power across eight states Saturday evening.

The same strong upper-level storm that's producing winter weather in the Midwest is generating severe weather in the South.
