E​vacuation orders remained in place in parts of the San Bernardino Mountains as thunderstorms brought the possibility of more mudslides into Wednesday.

R​escue crews were searching for a missing person Tuesday after mudslides struck in Southern California Monday. At least four homes were heavily damaged between Forest Falls, California, and the community of Oak Glen.

P​hotos show vehicles buried in mud and damaged homes, as well as a large boulder that slid into a house.

Mudslides and flash flooding occurred in areas with burn scars from wildfires two years ago, as nearly 2 inches of rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Kay lashed the area. Burn scars are more susceptible to mudslides because substantial vegetation, which holds the soil in place, has yet to grow back.

Yucaipa Police told some residents in Forest Falls to shelter in place overnight as it was too late to evacuate.

On Sunday, more than 50 people were rescued after their vehicles were stranded in a mudslide in Los Angeles County near Lake Hughes. According to local media, no one was injured, though some were rescued by helicopter.
