H​urricane Ian made landfall in Cuba early Tuesday as a Category 3 hurricane, bringing storm surge flooding, heavy rain and damaging winds to the island nation's western provinces and knocking out the entire power grid.

Photos show collapsed buildings in Pinar del Rio where the hurricane made landfall and residents wading through flooded streets in Batabano. T​he hurricane carved a destructive path through western Cuba before strengthening to a Category 4 hurricane and dealing a devastating blow to Florida's southwest coast.

By Friday, people in Cuba were still suffering without power.

The Energy and Mines Ministry announced it had restored energy to three regions on Thursday, but CBS News reported that only 10% of Havana's 2 million residents had power. According to the Associated Press, several hundreds of people in the city took to the streets demanding power to be restored on Thursday.

T​he storm left at least two people dead in Cuba and devastated the area of Pinar del Rio, where much of the island's tobacco, used in its famous cigars, is grown.
