Photos: Flooding Inundates New Zealand's Largest City

A​uckland, New Zealand, is under a state of emergency Friday after receiving more than 10 inches of rain, which caused widespread flooding in the city.

E​mergency services received more than 1,500 calls for help due to the flooding, which in some areas was up to waist-deep. Residents in flood-prone areas have been told to prepare to evacuate.

A​ccording to New Zealand's weather agency, MetService, the city received the most rain ever recorded there in one day.

The city's airport was flooded, forcing its closure, and major roads were blocked by the floodwaters. The storms have also caused landslides and caused power outages throughout Auckland.

A​ccording to the Associated Press, an Elton John concert at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium was canceled because of unsafe weather conditions, not long before the singer was due to begin his performance at 7:30 p.m. A photo in the slideshow above shows fans leaving the stadium on Friday after the show's cancellation. About 40,000 people were expected to attend the concert.
