Photos: Dangerous Ice Storm Strikes The Southern Plains

As the Southern Plains begin to thaw out, more than 289,000 people were still without power across Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi on Friday, according to PowerOutage.us. Winter Storm Mara brought icy conditions to parts of the Southern Plains earlier in the week, making travel dangerous and causing pileups and accidents in several states.

P​hotos show icy interstates across Texas as well as the 142nd Field Artillery Brigade aiding in Northwestern Arkansas as the weather worsened on Monday.

At least 10 people died in vehicle accidents in Texas during the ice storm. Three men died in Brownfield, Texas when the vehicle they were riding in crashed on an icy road, The Associated Press reported. Four others died in separate weather-related vehicle crashes throughout Texas earlier this week.
