T​he February full moon reached its peak at 1:30 p.m. EST. The moon rose in the East Coast at 5:10 p.m. Photos show the gorgeous moon, dubbed the 'Snow Moon,' shining bright around the world.

F​ebruary's moon is called the Snow Moon because the month usually brings heavy snowfall, according to The Old Farmer's Almanac. The source also states that the moon names last for the entire lunar month, not just the time of fullness.

T​he full moon was the smallest of the year due to its position in orbit, Space.com reported. Sunday's moon appeared up to 14% smaller than a supermoon, making it a 'micromoon,' the opposite of a supermoon.
