T​hirty years ago this week, a massive storm struck the East Coast, dumping snow in double-digit accumulation from Alabama to Maine as well as producing tornadoes and destructive storm surge.

I​t was called the "Storm of the Century," and was also the only time the term "superstorm" was used before Hurricane Sandy's devastating East Coast strike in 2012. The 1993 Superstorm hit the country from March 12 through March 15 of that year and was one of only two Category 5 snowstorms to strike the East Coast (the second occurring in January 1996).
