Aerial Images Show Damage From Los Angeles Area Tornado

P​hotos from above show damage in Montebello, California, eight miles east of downtown Los Angeles, after a tornado struck the city Wednesday morning. The tornado was rated an EF1 by the National Weather Service, and was the strongest to hit the Los Angeles area since 1983.

T​he tornado ripped roofs off of buildings and injured at least one person. According to NWS, 17 structures were damaged, with 11 of those considered significantly damaged. Most of the damage was concentrated at an industrial warehouse-commercial business district.

K​TLA.com reported that the tornado measured approximately 50 yards wide and traveled four-tenths of a mile.

L​ess than 24 hours before, an EF0 tornado caused damage in the Santa Barbara County town of Carpinteria. About 25 mobile homes were damaged and one person was injured.
