Photos Show Major Damage In South, Midwest After Deadly Tornado Outbreak

P​hotos from the Midwest and South show downed trees and major damage to homes and structures after a deadly tornado outbreak killed at least 33 people over the weekend.

Cleanup is just beginning days after the outbreak spawned nearly 100 tornadoes and suspected tornadoes across 11 states between Friday and Saturday. Reports of tornadoes were made in Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and even as far east as Delaware and Maryland, according to the National Weather Service. It may take days to confirm all of the tornadoes that occurred over the weekend.

O​ne of the deaths occurred in southeast of Greenwood, Delaware, when a man died in a collapsed building. It was the first tornado-related death in the state in four decades, according to the NWS. The same tornado damaged two to three dozen homes in Sussex County, according to WTXF.

A​t least nine people died in one Tennessee county due to the storms, and six others were reported dead throughout the state. The Associated Press reported five deaths in Indiana and four in Illinois. One of the deaths in Illinois occurred in Belvidere, when a severe storm collapsed the roof of a packed theater, injuring 28 others.

O​ne person was killed in Mississippi in the severe weather, five in Arkansas, one in Alabama and one in Ohio.
