Aerial images show the scale of devastation in Lahaina after fast-moving and deadly wildfires tore through western Maui.

T​he fire has been blamed for at least 111 deaths, making it the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than 100 years.

"As you know, the number has been rising and we will continue to see loss of life," Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said in a news conference. "​It's a heartbreaking day."

The fire destroyed more than 2,700 buildings, and FEMA estimated the damage at upwards of $5.5 billion.

S​earch and rescue efforts are ongoing, with dozens of people and more than 20 cadaver dogs fanning out across the rubble to search for additional victims.
