Photos Show Ophelia's Flooding In Maryland And Virginia

O​phelia was downgraded from a tropical storm on Saturday after making landfall in North Carolina, but still brought storm surge and heavy rain to the Mid-Atlantic over the weekend causing flooding in areas of North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.

P​hotos show flooded roads in Crisfield, Maryland. The city was already planning to apply for grants from FEMA and the Maryland Department of Emergency Management to help with a $63 million flood control program to mitigate flooding — a near constant problem in Crisfield.

L​ocals told WBOC that the flooding, though it appeared to be several feet in some locations, was minor compared to what they've experienced from other storms. Some expected it to be at least a week before Ophelia's flooding clears Crisfield.

F​looding was also seen in parts of Virginia, including Poquoson and Maryus.

I​n Belhaven, North Carolina, storm surge flooded local businesses with 10 to 12 inches of water. Business owners were cleaning up the mess Monday after waters receded.

T​he storm knocked out power to tens of thousands of people from North Carolina to New Jersey and Pennsylvania over the weekend.
