Francine made landfall about 30 miles from Morgan City, Louisiana, Wednesday evening as a Category 2 hurricane. Thursday morning, southern Louisiana residents woke to felled trees, flooded roads and damaged roofs.

More than 340,000 customers remain without power in the state. Mississippi saw some impacts as well, and more than 36,000 power outages are reported there, according to poweroutage.us.

The storm, which has since been downgraded to a tropical depression, brought more than 8 inches of rain to parts of New Orleans and surrounding areas, making some roads dangerous to drive and forcing school and government building closures.
