Hurricane Helene brought devastation to the Southeast and southeast Appalachia after making a Category 4 landfall in Florida's Big Bend Thursday. Dozens of people were killed and countless homes were damaged and destroyed.

Photos bring the storm's impact to life, showcasing what residents from Florida to North Carolina are dealing with. Feet of flooding has inundated roads and homes in North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Trees are seen smashed through roofs and vehicles along Helene's path.

Landslides and flash floods left areas of western Northern Carolina effectively cut off, with roads blocked and washed away.

In Erwin, Tennessee, Unicoi County Hospital was surrounded by floodwaters nearly up to the roof, where patients and staff were rescued by helicopter. In Cedar Key, Florida, homes have been completely washed away, leaving behind only foundations and porches. Debris is scattered far and wide in affected areas.
