Christopher Horsley was a long way from his Ormskirk, U.K. home during his daring camping trip on Marum, an active lava lake in Ambrym, Vanuatu. He and his fellow campers, expedition founder Geoff Mackley, Nik Halik and Kevin Keator were the first to sleep at the bottom of the crater.

"As climbers and filmmakers specializing in accessing volcanoes, the purpose of the mission was to acquire access to the crater floor, speding a night inside and to capture images using drone photography for ducumenting purposes," Horsley told Caters News Agency

"To set up camp in such an extreme location blows the mind, being surrounded by 450 meter rock faces on all sides really makes you feel helpless. Also the 70 meter wide roaring lava lakes help with that too," Horsley added.

He told Caters News Agency that descents into the crater takes him about two to two and a half hours. The dangers are apparent in the photos, and Horsley said that problems can escalate very quickly in the volcanic location.
