Nearly 400,000 people have evacuated flooded homes from across nearly half of the state of Assam.

Major flooding from monsoonal rains has killed at least 20 people and affected hundreds of thousands in northeastern India.

Nearly 400,000 people have evacuated flooded homes from across nearly half of the state of Assam, according to CBC News. Nearly 30,000 are being housed in relief camps run by the government.

Deaths included drownings and fatalities from collapsed homes in Assam state. The Brahmaputra River has been flowing above the danger level, the state's disaster management authority reported, according to The Toronto Star. Nearby, several districts in Arunachal Pradesh state were unreachable due to flooding and landslides. 

An Indian air force helicopter delivering food supplies to remote regions went missing in Arunachal Pradesh state in Tuesday's bad weather, India's Junior Home Minister, Kiren Rijiju said. 

India's monsoon season runs from June through September, and deadly flooding is common during this time.
