Nowicki is a resident of Saint Joseph, Michigan, and enjoys taking photos during winter weather and storms.

"I take a lot of photos of the lighthouse and the Lake Michigan shoreline and the weather and storms always offer something new to see and photograph," he told weather.com in an interview.

He said that he knew that with the recent strong winds and freezing temperatures, there would be a good possibility that the lighthouse in his hometown would be covered in a thick layer of ice. He armed himself with a winter wet suit to keep dry and warm, and headed down to the beach.

"I do not mind being out in the cold," he said, though he admitted, "it is very cold on the fingers trying to operate a camera."

The ice is formed when the powerful Lake Michigan crash onto the structure. Nowicki says it is a testament to the power of the lake.
