Shelters are so crowded that some people are being turned away. As of Saturday evening, 16 of Miami-Dade's 42 shelters were listed as "At Capacity."

Florida Gov. Rick Scott informed the public in a press conference Saturday that shelters are open in every county in the state. The Florida Division of Emergency Management is continuously updating a running county-by-county list of open shelters.

Even at open shelters, evacuees are facing long lines as they seek a last-minute bed. Thousands of people waited overnight on Friday in what was estimated to be a two-mile line outside Germain Arena in Estero, Florida

"We're having to add far more shelters than ever before," Collier County Emergency Services Bureau Director Dan Summers said, according to Naples Daily News.

Irma is expected to make a direct hit at Florida on Sunday, carrying a potentially devastating storm surge. Residents are urged to heed evacuation orders.
