Hurricane Katia made landfall on the Veracruz coast in eastern Mexico as a Category 1 hurricane on Friday night.

Hurricane Katia made landfall on the Veracruz coast in eastern Mexico as a Category 1 hurricane on Friday night. The landfall occurred north of Tecolutla between Tampico and the city of Veracruz.

The storm quickly dissipated and was downgraded to a tropical storm as it moved inland on Saturday, but the threat of heavy rain remains through the weekend in eastern Mexico. Flooding was seen in parts of Tecolutla as the Tecolutla River overflowed on Saturday.

Katia had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph on Saturday, which damaged structures including a gas station in Poza Rica in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Before weakening, the storm's maximum sustained winds reached 105 mph on Friday
