Severe storms killed at least 11 people in Moscow and the surrounding areas on Monday. Russian officials told the Associated Press that most of the fatalities and injuries were caused by falling trees. weather.com meteorologist Brian Donegan reported winds as high as 70 mph during the storm.

Storm debris remains on Tuesday, with downed trees, damaged buildings and destroyed vehicles. The AP reports that 3,500 trees were destroyed in the heavy winds.

At least 60,000 people were evacuated during the severe weather event, and flights at Moscow's airports were delayed.
