New York has the perfect solution for lovers of all things vintage. The MTA runs the Shoppers Special every holiday season, which features eight subway cars from different eras.

Riders often dress up in vintage garb for the trip. Some weekends, musicians play live music and patrons dance as the train heads from Manhattan's Second Avenue stop to the Queens Plaza stop in Queens.

The cars are period-correct down to the wicker seats, lightbulbs and ceiling fans.

"We owe a great deal to these City Cars, because they were durable work horses that remained in our fleet for 40 years," Wynton Habersham, NYC Transit's Senior Vice President of Subways says on the MTA website.

The train runs Sundays between the weekend after Thanksgiving and the weekend before Christmas. Throughout the rest of the year, the vintage train is on display at the New York Transit Museum.
